This sequence has been stuck in my head ever since I first read the novel Blue Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. Here Sax Russel visits an old friend, Ann Clayborne, from the group of the First Hundred colonists. Ann Clayborne is the 'most famous' Red, a faction that favours leaving Mars in its original pre-terraformed state. They have lost the struggle, and Ann has given up. Their architecture is described as favouring raw stone, basalts, etc, and I felt brutalism felt appropriate in this case given their unweilding nature.
